The Road Not Taken was written by Robert Frost in 1875. This is one of my favorite poems of all times. This poem talks about the different paths that can be taken in life. The first stanza talks about wanting to take both paths, but not being able to. The traveler stood and looked down both paths to see a far as they could down them. The next stanza talks about finally taking one of the two paths. The traveler picked the grassier of the two paths because it had the least travel. In the travels they decide that the paths are worn "really about the same". The third stanza talks about "leaves no step had trodden black". This is once again saying that no one has taken that path for quite a while. He then goes on to say that maybe he'll take the other path someday, but because decisions that are made about life are building blocks for everything else that will happen, he doubts he will ever come back to take the other path. The last stanza starts with, "I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence". This entire last stanza talks about what he will say about the path he took in the future. We don't know if that sigh is a sigh of relief or regret, because he does not yet know. He has yet to live the path he chose, but when he tells this story, he will tell everyone he took the road less traveled by and that it has made all the difference.

I had to read this poem sometime in my high school career and never really understood it. You seem to have a pretty good grasp on the message in this poem. I also feel like everyone in their life has to choose which path they want to follow, which is never an easy decision.
ReplyDeleteBeing in situations where you want to take both avalible paths is so rough. I expirienced it in my college decision. This is a great poem and I really like how it addresses that issue that people face all the time in their lives.
ReplyDeleteIt can be very difficult to decide which path in life to take, especially when both paths seem very appealing. This poem is very relatable to everyone-- every day we all have to make choices that will affect the rest of our lives.
ReplyDeleteLike Sam, I too fumbled through this poem during my high school career. After reading you analysis though, it seems like everything makes sense. The paths that we take in our lives have everything to do with our future and not looking back.
ReplyDeleteI really like this poem, there are always different paths in life that you could take. It's hard to choice which path to take, and once you do you can't really look back. This poem shows this good.
ReplyDeleteIt is easier said than done. There are many paths in life and sometimes you think know what you are doing, but then you get thrown off. Everyone has their own path and it changes every day. I liked this poem and the message that it conveyed.
ReplyDeleteThis one is famous in China 2!!! We learned that in our textbook in high school!! Many people choose like this poem because it spur them to find new things!!!
ReplyDeleteI really don't think that life should just pretty much be one fork in the road. It should be about finding the balance between those two roads.
ReplyDeleteI really like this poem. We all have a choice when it comes to which path we travel. I think the different paths don't matter too much, but how you react to the situations that occur while on the path is what is important
ReplyDeleteI agree with that overall idea that it's more satisfying to take the path less taken because you get a certain satisfaction of standing out from the crowd.
